Periglow  swiss herbal compress

Here is a little bit about me. My name is Dorothee. I grew up in Switzerland in a nature loving family. From early childhood on my mother would teach us all about herbs, berries, mushrooms and trees. She would treat our aches internally with herbal infusions and externally with tea bags as hot compresses. To add to my herbal knowledge, passed down from my mother, I became a doctors assistant.

 In 1998 I came to the USA and soon my first child was born. Luck was with me, I met Cristina America, the perfect midwife, just 7 hours before giving birth to Gingko. Cristina America is also a native of Switzerland. She told me to bundel different herbs in  large drip- coffee filters and use them as hot compresses. Although they were crude and a bit messy , the feeling of the hot compress was a great relief.

                     Well, I was back with herbs and teabags, just as in my childhood.

 Cristinas and my path came together again after 7 years. We both ended up in Humboldt county and we decided to produce Periglow. In 2007 Periglow had it's first show at Midwifery Today in Eugene OR and on we go.

Cristina America, L. Ac.

Periglow  was developed in conjunction with Cristina America, L. Ac.  Cristina is a licensed Herbalist and Acupuncturist with a Masters Degree from the Five Branches Institute in Santa Cruz, California. 

Cristina is a Licenced Midwife in her native country of Switzerland where her practice spanned 16 years of service to mothers in hospitals, at home births and at the Birthing Center Delphys is Zurich. 

One big emphasis in her practice is to bring postpartum culture back to women, to nourish and care for mothers. She gives "Mother Roasting," a traditional practice to apply heat on the lower abdomen and low back- to bring the fire back that was lost giving life. Also she makes medicine out of the placenta and mix it with Qi and blood-building herbs. Nourish the mother so she can nourish her child. Happy mother-happy family. Simple and profound.
